The speaker, who is one of the wealthiest people in Congress, has strongly denied that she shared any information with her venture capitalist husband.

But many people have questioned trades that Paul Pelosi made around the same time that Congress made important decisions.

The Beacon said that in June, he used call options to buy up to $5 million in graphics card maker Nvidia. This was just a few weeks before the House was going to vote on a bill to give more than $50 billion in subsidies to domestic semiconductor makers.

He also bought a lot of Tesla stock in March, when his wife was pushing for subsidies for electric cars.

The Free Beacon said that Pelosi's financial disclosure statement says that she will have a net worth of $171,4 million in 2021.

Members of Congress are not required to report exact dollar amounts, so they give a range of values instead.

A Democratic colleague recently criticized the speaker for not getting the bill through Congress that would have stopped lawmakers from trading stocks while in office.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), who sponsored the bill, said, "This is a failure of House leadership, and it's another reason why I've been saying for a long time that the Democratic Party needs new leaders on Capitol Hill."

Pelosi is getting more and more pressure from both sides of the aisle to move the bill forward. Critics have pointed to her husband's stock trades as a possible conflict of interest.
