Miguel Andujar was already fighting a battle in trying to find his role on the Yankees roster this spring.

Now he has an injury to add to that challenge.

Andujar is dealing with right hand and wrist soreness, manager Aaron Boone said Sunday morning, and is expected to see a hand specialist on Monday to get a diagnosis. The third baseman/outfielder has not played since Wednesday, with the Yankees holding him back because of the soreness.

“We’ll know more about it probably [Monday] or Tuesday,” Boone said from Tampa.

Andujar first experienced soreness during the offseason on a swing in the Dominican Winter League. It had since “calmed down,” Boone said, allowing Andujar to play in six games this spring before it popped up again.

“He was obviously playing and fine and then he noticed it in the last game he played,” Boone said. “It just got a little more sore again, so we’ve kind of been treating it here these last several days.”

Andujar had just played his first game in left field this spring on Wednesday, getting only one ball hit to him while going 0-for-3 at the plate. In six Grapefruit League games, Andujar is batting 2-for-15.

The 26-year-old had been the AL Rookie of the Year runner-up in 2018 before having his 2019 derailed by season-ending shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum. In his absence, Gio Urshela came alive and became the Yankees’ everyday third baseman, limiting Andujar to just 21 games last season.
