        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <strong>Met Gala</strong> will not be taking place on the first Monday in May this year.</p><p><strong>Anna Wintour announced</strong> on Monday that in light of the <strong>coronavirus</strong> pandemic, the much-anticipated opening of the Costume Institute’s “About Time” exhibit — and its accompanying star-studded red carpet — will be postponed indefinitely.</p><p>“Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, ‘About Time,’ and the opening night gala, will be postponed to a later date,” Wintour, who has served as the chairwoman of the event since 1995, wrote in her latest Vogue editor’s letter.</p><p>“In the meantime, we will give you a preview of this extraordinary exhibition in our forthcoming May issue.”</p><p>In the same note, the iconic editor also endorsed Joe Biden for president and said she has been “appalled” by how President Donald Trump has handled the pandemic.</p><p>Previously scheduled to take place on May 4, this year’s event was set to be <strong>hosted by Meryl Streep, Emma Stone and Lin-Manuel Miranda</strong>, with Louis Vuitton underwriting the gala.</p><p>The Metropolitan Museum of Art also announced that its doors will be closed through April 4, with larger programs and events postponed or cancelled through May 15.</p>]]></content:encoded>
