On Wednesday, Canadian lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter slammed the 40-year-old stylist in a lengthy Instagram video, claiming Mulroney “took offense” when she encouraged her followers to speak up about the Black Lives Matter movement, “wrongly assumed” the prompt was directed at her specifically, and exhibited “very problematic behavior” that culminated in a written threat.

The “I Do, Redo” host allegedly reached out to brands claiming that Exeter had “treated [her] unfairly,” leaving the So Sasha blogger “paralyzed with fear” over the incident. “For her to threaten me  ― a single mom, a single black mom — during a racial pandemic blows my mind,” Exeter said.

The influencer added that she found Mulroney’s silence on social media regarding issues of racial injustice particularly perplexing considering her close friendship with Markle, “arguably one of the most famous black women in the world.”

“Listen, I am by no means calling Jess a racist but what I will say is this: She is very well aware of her wealth, her perceived power and privilege because of the color of her skin,” Exeter said. “And that, my friends, gave her the momentary confidence to come for my livelihood in writing. Textbook white privilege, really, in my personal opinion.”

Mulroney took to the comments of Exeter’s video to say she was “unequivocally sorry” for causing her pain, writing, “As I told you privately, I have lived a very public and personal experience with my closest friend where race was front and centre. It was deeply educational.”

The “Good Morning America” contributor later posted a separate statement on Instagram, writing that Exeter “rightfully” called her out “for not doing enough when it came to engaging in the important and difficult conversation around race and injustice in our society.”

Mulroney added that she’d taken Exeter’s call to action personally and acknowledged that those with large platforms have a duty to speak up.

“I want to say from my heart that every word of my apologies to Sasha over the course of the last two weeks privately, and again both publicly and privately today is true,” she continued. “I did not intend in any way to jeopardize her livelihood. We had a disagreement and it got out of hand. For that I am sorry.”

Mulroney promised to “do better” moving forward. “I’m going to be stepping back from social media in the coming day and giving my microphone to Black voices,” she wrote, adding that Exeter would be welcome to take over her account for a time.

“I plan to use this time to reflect, learn and listen,” the stylist concluded. “I want you to know that I’m committed to using every platform and resource available to me to continue the important work of anti-racism. I hope you will all continue to hold me accountable.”

Reps for Mulroney and Exeter did not immediately respond to Page Six Style’s request for comment.
