        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Marianne Faithfull has joined the long list of stars confirmed to have COVID-19 — with the potentially deadly disease leaving the singer “barely able to speak” in hospital, according to reports.</p><p>The 73-year-old singer and actress — who shot to fame in swinging-sixties London, part of an iconic couple with Mick Jagger — was hospitalized last Monday and tested positive for the disease, <strong>Rolling Stone confirmed</strong> Saturday.</p><p>She has developed pneumonia and “can barely speak and [has] no visitors,” her ex-husband John Dunbar has been telling friends, <strong>according to The Independent</strong>.</p><p>Friends particularly fear for the smoky-voiced singer because she has a history of health conditions — having battled hepatitis C and breast cancer — that, along with her age, could put her in the high-risk bracket.</p><figure id="attachment_5209045" class="wp-caption alignright"><strong><noscript><img  data- data-src="/uploads/2020/04/1012004282.jpg" class="lazyload" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw=="><noscript><img  data-src="/uploads/2020/04/1012004282.jpg"></noscript></noscript><img class="lazyload" src='data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=%22http://www.w3.org/2000/svg%22%20viewBox=%220%200%20210%20140%22%3E%3C/svg%3E' data- data-src="/uploads/2020/04/1012004282.jpg"></strong><figcaption class="wp-caption-text"><span>Marianne Faithfull circa 1966</span><span class="credit">Getty Images</span></figcaption></figure><p>The star — who was just 16 when she released “As Tears Go By,” penned by Jagger and fellow Rolling Stone Keith Richards — has also been open about her struggles with drug abuse and anorexia.</p><p>“She has withstood and survived so much in her life – including being Marianne Faithfull – that to be taken down by a virus would be such a tragedy,” her friend, performance artist Penny Arcade, wrote on social media, according to The Independent.</p><p>Faithfull’s rep confirmed to Rolling Stone that “Marianne is being treated for COVID-19 in hospital in London.”</p><p>“She is stable and responding to treatment. We all wish her well and a full and speedy recovery,” the rep said in a statement.</p>]]></content:encoded>
