Maluma can now add “fashion designer” to his expanding list of accomplishments.

The Colombian singer has revealed he collaborated with Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing and his stylist Ugo Mozie on his 2020 VMAs performance outfit.

During Sunday’s show, he took the stage in the neon anise-green double-breasted silk suit, matching silk collarless shirt and Balmain sneakers to perform his latest single, “Hawái,” off his album “Papi Juancho.” In July, Page Six exclusively confirmed that the song is about his ex Natalia Barulích’s new relationship with soccer star Neymar.

“Olivier knows the value of bringing a story and brand to life,” Maluma, 26, said in a press release. “He visually understands the long-term goals of who I am.”

“Papi Juancho,” the name of Maluma’s new album, refers to a nickname representing his own alter ego. Maluma said Rousteing, 34, really captured the LP’s “Miami Vice” theme with this Balmain look.

“I was excited he had the vision of who ‘Papi Juancho’ is and seamlessly executed this throwback ’90s feel with me,” he said. “For us, it was important to bring the bright colors, good times and nostalgic feel during these unprecedented times.”

The full custom design will be part of Balmain’s Spring-Summer 2021 collection. It will debut again on Balmain’s runway show during Paris Fashion Week on Oct. 2.

What fashion’s biggest nights will look like remains to be seen amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but Maluma’s performance was pre-recorded due to coronavirus concerns.

However, the “Que Pena” singer was thrilled to be back onstage after a months-long hiatus despite the new restrictions.

“Being on stage for the first time since the pandemic hit was so amazing,” he said in the release. “I felt like I was home again and I am grateful to MTV for having me back to perform since my first time at the VMAs in 2018. With my performance, I wanted to transpire uplifting energy with a vibrant set for my fans watching at home.”

Maluma took home the Moon Person for the Best Latin category for his video with J Balvin, “Que Pena.” We previously reported that it took the Colombian crooners four years to collaborate on the song due to scheduling conflicts.

Maluma said of their partnership, “As artists, we have worked hard to represent Latinos globally and tonight this win represents that united we are all stronger together for our culture.”
