Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall, who is mixed race, is tired of the media confusing her with her other multi-racial bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

“You might want to make sure you’re using an image of the correct mixed race member of the group,” Thirlwall said in a message to MSN on her Instagram Story after the outlet posted a photo of Pinnock with an article about Thirlwall.

The 27-year-old singer, who is British, Egyptian and Yemeni, explained that the media often confused her with 28-year-old Pinnock, who is Barbadian and Jamaican.

“This shit happens to @leighannepinnock and I ALL THE TIME that it’s become a running joke,” she wrote, adding that journalists frequently confuse the two singers during interviews too.

“I’ve had ‘Oh sorry, you look similar.’ Really?! I’m done with us just having to laugh it off now,” she said. “It’s lazy journalism. It’s ignorant. It’s rude.”

She added, “It offends me that you couldn’t differentiate the two women of colour out of four members of a group…DO BETTER.”

Pinnock also shared her frustration, writing on social media, “We’ve held this in way too long.”

The other two Little Mix members, Perrie Edwards and Jesy Nelson, are both white.
