Kevin Durant is staying in Brooklyn.

The Nets superstar will sign a four-year, $198 million extension with the Nets on Friday. The deal was confirmed by Durant’s longtime business partner Rich Kleiman on Boardroom, the platform they run under ThirtyFive Ventures.

Brooklyn’s entire Big 3 – Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving – are all eligible for long-term extensions. General manager Sean Marks has been open about his intent to re-sign the entire trio, and Nets owner Joe Tsai’s willingness to pay the staggering luxury tax bill required.

The 32-year-old Durant’s new extension will bring him past half a billion dollars in career NBA earnings, not even including his investments. He’ll decline his already-existing player option for the 2022-23 season, and will instead tack on four more years starting after this upcoming campaign.

In his first season coming off a June 2019 ruptured Achilles, Durant averaged 26.9 points, 7.1 boards and 5.6 assists, shooting career-highs of 53.7 % overall and 45% from deep.

Durant’s playoff run was one for the ages, averaging 34.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. He had a 49-point second-round Game 5 against Milwaukee, and nearly lifted Brooklyn to a Game 7 win over the eventual champs. He’s currently in Tokyo leading Team USA in the Olympic gold medal game.
