The Jets reached their first deal of free agency on Monday afternoon, agreeing to a one-year deal with linebacker Jarrad Davis.

The deal is worth up to $7 million, according to multiple reports. Davis, 26, spent the past four seasons with the Lions, who drafted him in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft (21st overall) out of Florida.

Linebacker is a position of need for the Jets as they convert to new coach Robert Saleh’s 4-3 defense after years of playing 3-4 as their base. Davis was a three-year starter in Detroit, but lost his starting job in 2020. He only started four games last year and had 46 tackles and a ½ sack.

Davis’ best season was in 2018 when he had 100 tackles and six sacks.
