Was Jay Williams’ Twitter hacked?

The ESPN analyst alluded to that in a Twitter statement, which backtracked on a previous tweet about the Celtics’ new head coach.

“As it relates to the Boston Celtics tweet that came from my account a couple of hours ago… I did not post that & my passcode has now been changed,” Williams tweeted Thursday morning, addressing the since-deleted tweet.

On Wednesday, The Post confirmed the Celtics are finalizing a deal to name Nets assistant Ime Udoka as their new head coach — replacing Brad Stevens, who was promoted to head of basketball operations following Danny Ainge’s departure.

Soon after the coaching news went public, a tweet from Williams’ Twitter account claimed Udoka would be Boston’s “first head coach of color.”

pic.twitter.com/wybhUxuCNd
— Colton (@Colton_Weaver7) June 23, 2021

The Celtics have had five Black head coaches in franchise history before Udoka — including the first-ever in NBA history when they hired Bill Russell in 1966.

Most recently, Doc Rivers coached in Boston from 2004-2013 and led the Celtics to a championship in 2008.

Williams was immediately hit with backlash about the factually incorrect tweet. Even LeBron James weighed in, and was admittedly in disbelief over the situation.

Williams’ latest controversy comes just a few weeks after Nets star Kevin Durant said Williams told “a f–kin lie” on national television about an alleged previous encounter between the two.

Before he joined the Nets, Udoka, now 43, was an assistant with the Spurs for seven seasons from 2012-2019 under coach Gregg Popovich. He went on to spend two years in Philadelphia under Brett Brown before working under Steve Nash this season. Udoka’s playing career included stints with the Lakers, Knicks, Blazers, Spurs and Kings.

Udoka reportedly received glowing recommendations from Celtics stars including Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart. The trio played under Udoka on Team USA in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
