Also on Monday, an avalanche at a lower elevation on Mount Manaslu killed a Nepali guide and hurt other climbers.

Hilaree Nelson, 49, fell off the mountain as she and her partner, Jim Morrison, were skiing down from the 26,775-foot summit, according to Jiban Ghimire of the Kathmandu-based Shangri-La Nepal Trek, which planned and outfitted the trip.

Monday, it was hard to save people because of the weather. Ghimire said that visibility was good Tuesday when a helicopter flew over the mountain to look for signs of the missing climber. The weather had gotten better.

During Nepal's autumn climbing season, hundreds of climbers and their guides are on the mountain trying to reach the top.

On Monday, all of the climbers who were caught in the avalanche were found. Some of the hurt people were taken to hospitals in Kathmandu after being flown there.

Nelson, who is from Telluride, Colorado, and Morrison, who is from Tahoe, California, are both extreme skiers who reached the top of Mount Lhotse in 2018.

Nepal's government has given 504 climbers permission to try to reach the top of high mountain peaks in the fall. They are mostly on Mount Manaslu.
