        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Gov Ball has been called off.</p><p>Festival organizers announced Thursday that the 2020 summer concerts are canceled due to the coronavirus. The three-day event was slated for the first weekend in June.</p><p>“Simply put – due to current government mandates and the evolving situation in NYC, it is neither safe nor prudent to move forward with our June dates. The well-being of our fans, artists, staff, vendors, partners, and the surrounding NYC community is always our #1 priority,” the Governors Ball team said in a statement.</p><p>New York City is currently dealing with one of the worst <strong>coronavirus clusters</strong> in the country.</p><p>This will be the first year Gov Ball hasn’t happened since it started 10 years go.</p><p>Headliners like Missy Elliot, Vampire Weekend, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus and Solange were <strong>set to take the stage at Randall’s Island</strong>.</p><div class="embed-wrapper twitter"><div class="embed-twitter"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p dir="ltr" lang="und"><strong>pic.twitter.com/Upe5LgBniG</strong></p><p>— The Governors Ball (@GovBallNYC) <a href="https://twitter.com/GovBallNYC/status/1243236307184254977?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 26, 2020</a></p></blockquote><p><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p></div></div><p>Those who had purchased tickets can apply for a refund or transfer their purchase to a ticket for next year’s festival.</p><p>Gov Ball is one of many concerts and festivals canned because of the coronavirus. The SXSW culture fest in Austin, Texas, was supposed to happen earlier this month but was <strong>canceled</strong> as the virus spread.</p><p>Coachella, which was set to take place in mid-April, has been <strong>postponed</strong>.</p><p>Chicago festival Lollapalooza delayed announcing this summer’s lineup and has yet to make a formal decision about whether they will still hold the event, according to the event’s official <a href="https://twitter.com/lollapalooza/status/1242463485637861377?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Twitter</a>.</p><p>Many individual tours, including those staged by <strong>Madonna</strong>, <strong>Angélique Kidjo</strong> and more, were also halted.</p>]]></content:encoded>
