The 34-year-old actor, who played Dave Karofsky on Glee, announced the birth of his son, Dylan Remington Adler, Friday on Instagram.

“We were very worried about giving birth during these scary, fearful, uncertain and trying times in the world,” he told Page Six in a statement on Friday. “Both mentally/emotionally on behalf of our son, and logistically regarding what might happen at the hospital when we arrived on the day.”

Thanking their OB, Dr. Taaly Silberstein, and the “amazingly helpful, sweet and supportive staff” at Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, he added, “We were aware, per friends and per the Internet, that many hospitals nationwide were no longer allowing spouses to enter the hospital and be present for the birth which terrified us. The thought of my wife having to go through labor on her own or me being stuck outside without knowing what was happening or being in the room to support her was frightening but everyone reassured us that I would be allowed in as this particular hospital had invoked a one person rule, and the delivering mother was allowed to bring one person in the room with her.”

Adler says he’s not sure if things will change in the coming weeks, but he was told they would be keeping the one-person rule.

“You could definitely feel a change in the atmosphere,” he went on to explain. “Certainly much different from when we did a hospital tour a month ago from the moment you walked in and were required to have your temperature taken, and everyone wearing masks and gloves, and frequent signs posted throughout the hospital about washing your hands and social distancing etc., but in our little bubble of a hospital suite, we just focused on Jennifer being healthy and delivering a healthy baby boy and we were fortunate that everything worked out and we have the hardworking, passionate staff and doctors to thank for that.

“I also must thank my champion warrior Goddess of a wife for powering through a 24-hour labor during this stressful global pandemic, and on top of that, her mother had unexpectedly passed away the day before, not related to coronavirus. Watching her deliver our son filled me with hope, admiration, respect, and inspiration. This world has a future filled with innocent people entering into it from all over that we need to preserve and fight for, now more than ever. We all come into this world the same way, we are all equal, and we all need to look out for one another as such.”

Max and Jennifer — who wed in 2015 — welcomed Dylan, their first child, at 5:25 a.m. on Friday. The couple first announced they were expecting in January.
