Giants cornerback Sam Beal pleaded guilty to two gun-related charges in Ohio last week stemming from an arrest in June 2020, according to multiple reports.

Beal, a third-round supplemental pick of the Giants in 2018, has appeared in just six games for the team and is no lock to make the roster this year.

Beal entered his plea on June 4 in Lorain County, Ohio, near Cleveland. He has been entered into a pretrial diversion program and has been placed on two years of probation and ordered to pay court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.

“We have been aware of the situation,” the Giants said in a statement. “We have no further comment at this time.”

The arrest occurred on June 2, 2020 when Beal was pulled over by police due to a traffic violation. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, improperly handling a firearm and marijuana possession.

Beal was indicted on the gun charges on Aug. 13. That was eight days after he opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns.

General manager Dave Gettleman selected Beal, 24, in the 2018 supplemental draft out of Western Michigan, but he has barely played for the Giants due to injuries and last year’s opt-out. He has 26 tackles and one pass defended in his career.

Beal is part of a crowded cornerback room that includes James Bradberry, Adoree’ Jackson, Darnay Holmes and recent draft pick Aaron Robinson. Now, with an off-field issue, Beal could be the odd man out when the Giants make their cuts in training camp.
