        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>New York Yankees Giancarlo Stanton opened the 2020 season with a monster home run into left-center field.</p><p>The 459-foot blast in the first inning gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead on Thursday night. It had an exit velocity of 112.2, according to Statcast.</p><p>Stanton, who slammed Washington Nationals Max Scherzer’s 96.9 mph cutter, joined a list of Yankees who hit a home run in his first plate appearance on Opening Day. Some legends featured on the list include Babe Ruth and Danny Tartabull, according to the YES Network.</p><p>Scherzer wasn&#8217;t pleased after the blast, screaming “Goddamnit!,” once Stanton made contact with the pitch.</p><p>Adam Eaton hit a solo blast off Gerrit Cole in the bottom of the inning to cut the Yankees&#8217; lead to 2-1.</p>]]></content:encoded>
