        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The ripple effects of the George Floyd protests have reached the world of video games.</p><p>&#8220;Fortnite,&#8221; a free-to-play, shoot-em-up game that is among the most popular in the world, this week announced that it was delaying its end-of-season event in order to give employees and players more time with their families and friends.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players and communities are experiencing,&#8221; the game&#8217;s creator, Epic games, said in <strong>a blog post</strong>. &#8220;We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families and their communities,&#8221; it added.</p><p>&#8220;Fortnite&#8221; — a battle royale that pits players against each other in a &#8220;Hunger Games&#8221;-style fight to the death —&nbsp;was set to hold its season finale on Thursday, and its season 3 launch on Sunday, June 7. The events have been moved to June 15 and June 17, respectively.</p><p>Since its fall 2017 release, Fortnite has drawn hundreds of millions of loyal players — from school-age kids to famous NBA players and other celebrities — as well as <strong>billions in profits</strong>.</p>]]></content:encoded>
