Zayn Malik, 27, has yet to share a single thought on Twitter about his time in the band, even as his fellow members reunite online for the sake of the good old days. And fans are beginning to notice.

Malik — who in 2015 became the first to leave the iconic boy band to start a solo career — last tweeted or Instagrammed on June 2, posting about Black Lives Matter and the subsequent protests. He’s been MIA ever since.

One Direction members Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson thanked their fans for the support throughout the past decade and shared nostalgic photos. Malik’s silence, amid a new look-back video and the launch of a full-blown immersive website featuring the band’s best moments, has not gone unnoticed by the group’s devout fans.

Twitter detectives were quick to point out that the other members of the band included Malik in their reminiscent tweets, even after his split from the band caused a rift in their relationships. However, the bond seemed to be mended, as they all re-followed him on Twitter earlier this year.

While some were quick to criticize Malik’s social-media disappearance on the historic day, others jumped to his defense.

Despite fans’ speculations on Malik’s whereabouts, many of them are just excited the famous boy band is, potentially, making a comeback — at least virtually, for now.

On Thursday, the band launched a commemorative website full of memories and playlists curated especially for their biggest stans. It was met with so much enthusiasm that it crashed.

“Uh oh … You guys broke the internet (again),” the website launch page read, along with the hashtag #DirectionersBreakTheInternet.

Malik could just be too busy to reminisce, or even perhaps without an internet connection — he and partner Gigi Hadid are expecting a baby, and have been spending the coronavirus lockdown isolating on a farm in rural Pennsylvania. Their baby, a girl, is due in September.
