Even though Musk said he was sorry, Brin still doesn't talk to him often, the sources said.

The Journal says that Brin filed for divorce in January, citing "irreconcilable differences," after the Tesla founder hooked up with Nicole Shanahan.

After Musk broke up with Canadian pop singer Grimes in September, the fling is said to have happened in December at the annual Art Basel event, a fair with exhibitions by international galleries and panel discussions attended by wealthy collectors.

People who knew Shanahan and Brin well told the Journal that their marriage was also tense at the time because of problems with COVID-19 shutdowns and taking care of their daughter.

Someone close to Shanahan told the Journal that they were living apart but still together.

Shanahan is reportedly asking Brin, who is worth about $90 billion, for more than $1 billion. The two are in the middle of a divorce mediation process.

They haven't been able to come to an agreement because Brin's side says Shanahan wants much more than what a prenuptial agreement calls for and Shanahan's side says she signed the agreement under pressure while she was pregnant.

The Journal said that Brin's lawyer would not say anything.

The Journal said that neither Musk nor a spokesperson for Shanahan, who runs a foundation that works for reproductive justice, responded to requests for comment.
