        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Dr. Anthony Fauci said it&#8217;s &#8220;surreal&#8221; that his favorite actor Brad Pitt earned an Emmy nod for <strong>portraying him</strong> on &#8220;Saturday Night Live&#8221; &#8212; but he won&#8217;t be joining the star on stage if he wins.</p><p>Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, laughed when asked about Pitt&#8217;s nomination for his 3-minute cameo on &#8220;SNL.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;What a surreal world we&#8217;re living in,&#8221; Fauci said Thursday on <a href="https://twitter.com/NewDay/status/1291338662752530432" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">CNN&#8217;s &#8220;New Day.&#8221;</a></p><p>&#8220;He&#8217;s one of my favorite actors, so I really do hope he wins.&#8221;</p><p>Fauci told host Alisyn Camerota that he hasn&#8217;t spoken to Pitt since his &#8220;SNL&#8221; gig in April.</p><p>But the doctor added, &#8220;I would love to meet him because I&#8217;ve been such a great admirer of him and his talent.&#8221;</p><p>Pitt channeled Fauci for &#8220;SNL&#8217;s&#8221; cold open shortly after the infectious disease expert appeared on CNN in early April, saying he&#8217;d love for the two-time Oscar winner to portray him.</p><p>Camerota asked whether Fauci would want to join Pitt on stage if he wins the Emmy &#8212; causing the doc to shift to a more sober tone.</p><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">“What a surreal world we’re living in,” Dr. Fauci says about Brad Pitt being nominated for an Emmy award for portraying him on “SNL.”<br />“He’s one of my favorite actors, so I really do hope he wins.”<strong>https://t.co/o398tsNeDO</strong> <strong>pic.twitter.com/pR31z7hRkh</strong></p><p>&mdash; New Day (@NewDay) <a href="https://twitter.com/NewDay/status/1291338662752530432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 6, 2020</a></p></blockquote><p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p><p>“The only reason I have hesitancy about that is that we’re in the middle of an outbreak &#8212; a bad pandemic &#8212; and I think that association with kind of show business thing might be misinterpreted that I’m not serious about what I’m doing,&#8221; Fauci said.</p><p>&#8220;So I&#8217;d rather focus on my job and really wish him well that he wins.&#8221;</p><p>Fauci previously said Pitt <strong>nailed the impersonation</strong> &#8212; which involved a silver wig, wire-rimmed glasses and Fauci&#8217;s thick, gravelly New York accent.</p>]]></content:encoded>
