The official trailer for “Assassins,” released Thursday, zeroes in on the duo who allegedly killed the DPRK despot’s sibling Kim Jong Nam by smearing VX — one of the world’s most lethal nerve gases — onto his face in broad daylight at the airport in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As the two-minute teaser reminds us, the James Bond-esque hit came right after Jong Nam questioned his brother’s legitimacy as a ruler.

At the center of the thrilling investigation lies the alleged assassins’ bizarre claim that they’d been enlisted to perform a video prank and were completely unaware of what they were doing. Using a combination of shocking security footage and illuminating interviews, “Assassins” attempts to shed light on whether they were really trained killers or merely pawns in a grander political scheme.

The political docu-thriller, from Greenwich Entertainment, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will hit select US theaters and “virtual cinemas” on Dec. 11.
