The network is creating a multi-part documentary called “The Captain” on the Yankees Icon, saying it is “pulling back the curtain” on No. 2’s memorable career and his new journey as a part-owner and executive with the Miami Marlins.

Emmy-winning director Randy Wilkins will tell Jeter’s story and it will be executively produced by Spike Lee and Mike Tollin. The Players’ Tribune and Major League Baseball will also have a hand in production of the show that will be broadcast in 2022.

The documentary could be similar to the look at Michael Jordan’s career created by ESPN, entitled, “The Last Dance.” Left unsaid is if Jeter has editorial control. The fact that The Players’ Tribune, which Jeter founded, is involved might indicate he at least will have a role in what is seen by viewers.

Jeter, 46, won five World Series with the Yankees and was a 14-time All-Star. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the 2020 class, though the induction was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
