USAGAG — Yankees minor-league pitcher Denny Larrondo was the first professional baseball player to test positive for coronavirus, a source confirmed Monday.

The 17-year-old right-hander from Cuba was signed by the Yankees in 2018 and pitched 12 games for the Yankees’ Gulf Coast League team last season.

General manager Brian Cashman declined to comment on the identity of the player. During a conference call on Sunday, Cashman said an unidentified player was tested on Friday, had been isolated since then and his symptoms had subsided.

The Yankees’ minor league complex, located just under a mile from the major league facility and Steinbrenner Field, was cleaned on Sunday and is shut down until March 25.

Minor leaguers briefly came and went on Monday, picking up prepared food at the front of the minor league facility and then returning to their quarantine.

Cashman said Monday the facility was closed over the weekend in an abundance of caution, but added security remained in place, as well as other “essential duties.”

He again noted the team was following the “direction and/or approval of the department of health.”

Among the minor leaguers to show up Monday was right-hander Austin DeCarr.

“We’re getting information from the team and it’s working out fine,’’ said the 25-year-old, who last pitched for Class-A Charleston in 2018. “We pick up food here and then go back to wherever we’re staying.”

DeCarr said he has an apartment nearby, which is where he’s self-quarantined.

“We’re just taking it a day at a time,’’ DeCarr said.

Asked if it was a scary situation, being so close to a coronavirus case, DeCarr said, “Not for me. I know there’s one player affected, but we’re all OK.”

The major league facility was closed Monday after the Yankees had two days of informal workouts, since Monday was a scheduled off day.

The Yankees could resume workouts at Steinbrenner Tuesday, but at least several players left the area or had plans to, after they learned that teams would be cutting back on support staff to comply with the memo sent out by the Commissioners’ Office on Sunday.

It became clear on Monday that the MLB season won’t get underway until mid-May at the earliest, as commissioner Rob Manfred cited the Center for Disease Control’s recommendation restricting events of more than 50 people for the next eight weeks.

Manfred declined to point to a potential return date, so it’s unknown when a second spring training might begin.
