The controversial series depicts whites as slaves and blacks as slave owners. He said he set out to “help white people see racism from a new perspective,” but after the trailer was released, he received death threats and his phone number and address were posted online.

“I’ve been happily married to a black woman for over 25 years, and my circle of friends and closest peers are all black. I knew going into this that [it] would offend people, but my goal is to start a conversation,” he said.
