At the beginning of “Carton and Roberts,” which debuted Monday afternoon, Evan Roberts told Carton to “soak it in” as the radio host began his full-time return following a year in federal prison over a ticket scam. Roberts then noted how the two were broadcasting from “the Mike Francesa studio.”

“See, now why’d you have to go and do that?” Carton quipped. “I’m having a Kumbaya moment at your request and you go and ruin it.”

Carton took plenty of shots at Francesa when Carton was hosting WFAN’s morning show with Boomer Esiason. Now he’s in Francesa’s old afternoon timeslot — and studio — tasked with winning the ratings war against ESPN’s “The Michael Kay Show.”

Carton, who is a recovering gambling addict, didn’t delve into his personal issues after addressing them during an hour-long show on Oct. 29 — and in an exclusive interview with The Post’s Andrew Marchand. During that show, Carton said HBO producers who made a documentary about him asked Francesa to participate. Francesa told HBO “no chance,” according to Carton.

After a brief intro, Carton and Roberts quickly transitioned to sports talk, mostly discussing the Giants and Daniel Jones before taking calls at 2:30 p.m.

Roberts ended up paired with Carton after WFAN initially tried to bring Bart Scott back from ESPN Radio. Joe Benigno retired after a longtime partnership with Roberts.
