        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Claudell Washington, a versatile outfielder who finished his MLB career with the Yankees, died on Wednesday morning at the age of 65.</p><p>ESPN.com first <a href="https://twitter.com/hbryant42/status/1270752427508105216">reported the news.</a> Washington was living in the San Francisco area and had been battling illness for several years, <a href="https://twitter.com/susanslusser/status/1270754219809574912">according to the San Francisco Chronicle.</a></p><p>Washington, a Los Angeles native, played 17 seasons in the major leagues, including four with the Yankees and one with the Mets. Washington, who retired after the 1990 season as a Yankee, was a two-time All-Star and won a World Series his rookie season with the Athletics in 1974.</p>]]></content:encoded>
