Childish Gambino’s No. 1 hit “This is America,” only two years old — and released long before the coronavirus pandemic took over life as we know it — feels like another lifetime ago.

But Donald Glover, Gambino’s alter ego, decided to drop a new album on us at a time when we’re social distancing and have nothing better to do but stay at home and immerse ourselves in music.

The album, entitled “3.15.20,” was officially released Sunday, March 22, but was named after the date it was dropped on a dedicated website before being pulled. Time is a concept woven into the album: Most of the songs have numbers in the title, which represent their time stamp on the album.

“3.15.20” marks the first album-length release for Glover since 2016’s “Awaken, My Love!” and it might be his last. The 36-year-old rapper said in 2018 that he was planning to retire his stage name after finishing this project.

Here are five highlights of “3.15.20,” which features Ariana Grande, 21 Savage and more.

“Algorhythm”

This hypnotic jam, which has a distinctly haunting vibe right about now, takes Zhané’s 1993 hit “Hey Mr. D.J.” to a much darker place, but the groove remains.

“Time”

If we ever needed Prince to drop down from the purple heavens and restore some musical method to this madness, it’s now. Glover channels the Purple One in this multi-colored midtempo cut that reveals more shades with each spin.

Donald Glover a k a Childish GambinoRCA Records

“12.38”

This slow-jam sexiness just might do the trick to make you forget about everything that’s going on outside of those walls you’ve been stuck inside.

“19.10”

This ‘80s dance throwback will have you bopping around the house on your roller-skates — if you can dig them out of the closet.

“39.28”

“Why go to the party at all?” Well, yup, that’s the only choice these days. But this psychedelic-soul bliss will help you realize that a little party never hurt nobody right at home.
