“She says it’s not even her birthday,” Tony Bechara, artist and El Museo del Barrio’s chair, said on the Zoom bash. Not that Herrera knows exactly when her birthday is — we’re told her Cuban passport says it’s Sunday, but her US passport says it’s Saturday.

Herrera gave guests some advice: “For the first 100 years, eat red meat and drink Scotch,” Bechara relayed on her behalf. “Then switch to Champagne and a vegetarian diet.”
