While the rest of us huddle in place as society grounds to a halt due to the novel Chinese virus covid-19, Cardi B is trying to get paid.

The irrepressible rapper stayed in the spotlight this week after a remix that prominently featured a chunk of her profane rant about the pandemic quickly went, well, viral. And, as always, Cardi would like her check.

“The fact that this damn coronavirus song is charting on iTunes. Hold on … let me hit the DJ up and [her record label] Atlantic so I can get my damn coins,” she wrote on Instagram Tuesday.

Keeping your Cardi B coronavirus remixes straight does require some sleuthing, however: DJ iMarkkeyz put up the “original” on March 14, which is, for roughly 75% of its runtime, just Cardi yelling “Coronavirus, s–t is getting real!” over a fairly standard trap beat and some sound effects, including, cheekily, a cough.

Apparently cracking up in his own self-quarantine, DJ Snake released his own remix of Cardi’s rant, one that gets slightly more creative, sampling and pitch-shifting some of Cardi’s vocals into an Ibiza-worthy drop.

Per a fan account, the iMarkkeyz version is now charting in over 30 countries, thanks no doubt to its popularity on TikTok. If you’re interested — and why wouldn’t you be — Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson got in on the action as well, which you can see here.

If you’ll recall, Page Six investigated whether or not Suge Knight stood to profit from his role as a vocal sample on Nick Cannon’s Eminem diss track “The Invitation” back in December. Based on what we learned there, Cardi’s success in getting a cut of the remix cash depends on whether or not her contributions could be considered an essential, recurring part of the song.

We wish Cardi the best of luck in securing her bag during this difficult time.
