During an appearance on the “Soup with Coop” podcast — hosted by Manning’s brother Cooper — Marshall recalled a hilarious moment he shared with Eli on the sidelines in 2017, after the now-retired Giants quarterback threw a “terrible” pass.

Marshall teed up the conversation by noting that he approached Eli just as he did with other quarterbacks he had played with, such as Jay Cutler and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

“I go up to Eli, and Eli has his face in the iPad, looking at the play,” Marshall said. “I’m like, ‘Eli, that was a terrible pass. What are you thinking? What are you doing?’”

What happened next was something Marshall had never experienced with his quarterbacks from previous stops, Jay Cutler (Broncos and Bears) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (Jets).

“[Eli] just looked at me and didn’t say anything,” a still-shocked Marshall remembered, declaring the conversation (or lack there of) as “the most awkward moment.”

Marshall went on to admit that when he previously approached Fitzpatrick and others about bad passes, “they would laugh, it would break it up, and we would get past it.” Not with Manning, though.

“Eli just looked at me like, ‘If you don’t get out of my face,'” Marshall said, laughing.

Meanwhile, Cooper was cracking up in between eating spoonfuls of soup because he knew Eli’s agenda at the time.

“Oh, I think he was messing with you,” Cooper said, adding that his brother “almost adores” an awkward-silence moment.
