Billy Zane is hoping that his humanitarian efforts to raise money to fight COVID-19 will end the question that haunts him from the 1997 blockbuster “Titanic” as to why Rose didn’t share her raft to save Jack.

“I would like to think of the positive ramifications of COVID-19 is that it puts to rest such levels of triviality. That this conversation will find its way to the bottom of the ocean along with COVID-19,” he told Page Six.

The Chicago native is joining forces with Common and Vic Mensa to raise money for “Sweet Home Chicago: Relief and Recovery Streaming Event” to raise money for the Chicago CEO COVID-19 Coalition.

“Half of the people will ask me about that scene and the other half will say I don’t know what Rose was thinking. The other half are saying they would have married me. It goes right down the center.”

He adds, “As for ‘Titanic,’ it’s a gift that keeps giving. I’m marveled that it still resonates with some relevance. Grown men will come to me and say, ‘Thank you, it’s the first time I was allowed to cry in front of my family’.”

You can watch and donate at chicc.org or charity.gofundme.com/sweethomechicago. The telethon will take place May 16. Deon Cole will serve as the host.
