The 18-year-old Grammy winner took to YouTube overnight to share her message in a new spoken word short film called “Not My Responsibility.” The nearly four-minute footage has already been viewed more than 3.5 million times as of Wednesday morning.

The now-viral video first depicts the pop star in her usual baggy threads, wading through what looks like a pool of tar as she strips her garments. Over a moody, ambient soundtrack, Eilish almost entirely removes her jet black tank top near the end — but obscures her body in the inky liquid instead.

During a performance at the American Airlines Arena in Miami in March, just before the pandemic took hold in the US, the “Bad Guy” singer-songwriter teased footage from the film — to the cheers of tens of thousands of fans.

“If I wear what is comfortable, I am not a woman,” she says in her signature breathy voice. “If I shed the layers, I’m a slut. Though you’ve never seen my body, you still judge it and judge me for it. Why? We make assumptions about people based on their size. We decide who they are, we decide what they’re worth. If I wear more, if I wear less, who decides what that makes me? What that means? Is my value based only on your perception? Or is your opinion of me not my responsibility?”

In April, Eilish found herself in controversy over her body again, after sharing a rare photo of herself in a bikini via Instagram. The backlash, according to Eilish, was swift.

“I saw comments like, ‘How dare she talk about not wanting to be sexualized and wear this?!’ ” she told Dazed magazine in April. “It was trending. There were comments like, ‘I don’t like her anymore because as soon as she turns 18 she’s a whore.’ Like, dude. I can’t win.”

The new short film was produced and written by the “Everything I Wanted” singer.

In an interview with Teen Vogue last year, she explained her usual preference for oversize outfits.

“Nobody can have an opinion [on my body] because they haven’t seen what’s underneath. Nobody can be like, ‘She’s slim-thick,’ ‘She’s not slim-thick,’ ‘She’s got a flat ass,’ ‘She’s got a fat ass.’ No one can say any of that because they don’t know.”
