Anderson Cooper believes that his late mother, Gloria Vanderbilt, knew that his son’s name would be Wyatt — even though Cooper didn’t get the chance to tell her.

The CNN host — whose late father was named Wyatt — said he was able to tell Vanderbilt about his plans to become a parent before her June 2019 death, but at that point he hadn’t yet chosen a name.

“I mean, I think she knew,” Cooper, 52, told best friend Andy Cohen and their fans on Monday’s episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live.

Wyatt’s middle name is Morgan, a family name on Vanderbilt’s side. The baby was born in April via surrogate.

Cooper also reflected on his first Mother’s Day without Vanderbilt, saying: “It’s bittersweet obviously.”

“It’s, you know, anniversaries are always difficult, especially the first one after somebody has died but you know, I told — I was able to tell her before she died, you know, that that I was going to have a son and she was thrilled and she had been wanting me to, you know, to have a kid for a long time,” he said. “And my mom was was definitely from, you know, a different era in a different world but she was the most modern and accepting person I think I’ve ever met. And so even at 95, she was also the most youthful person I think I know and so she was, you know, she was up for anything. She wanted me to have a kid and she knew I would be or she felt I would be a great dad and so I think she would be amazed and thrilled to meet Wyatt and I hope she can see him.”
