Depp is suing Britain’s The Sun newspaper for calling him a “wife beater” in a 2018 article, amid Heard’s claims that her former husband repeatedly assaulted her while they were together. The actor denies ever hitting Heard.

The Sun’s lawyer, Sasha Wass, brought up Heard’s July 2015 diary entry while quizzing Depp’s longtime security guard, Malcolm Connolly, about what he knew of the pair’s volatile relationship.

Depp and Heard were on the Eastern & Oriental Express in Southeast Asia for their honeymoon and had gotten into “a terrible fight,” Heard wrote in the entry, which Wass read aloud in court.

“Hurt last night was particularly bad,” Heard wrote. “We finally fell asleep with one another smashed together in desperate, childlike anger, fear and love.

“Our fight was terrible. Johnny … at one point found himself with his shirt wrapped around my neck.

“Amazing to think about precision, coordination that required considering the close circumstances. He hit me several times,” Heard wrote, according to The Sun.

“I don’t even know how I wound up with this huge, rather annoying knot on the back of my head. F–k, I hate that.”

The Sun’s lawyer asked Connolly if he had heard the fight or ever seen injuries on Heard. The security guard said no to both questions.
