The last day to watch a new episode of “Jeopardy!” is May 1, according to an announcement on Twitter, and that’s got fans reminiscing about the long-running game show. While the 79-year-old host is responsible for plenty of quips, fans of the show are bored in coronavirus lockdown, so one of his more infamous wisecracks from four years ago is all the rage again on Twitter.

In a recently resurfaced viral clip originally from 2016, the longtime host is caught insulting one of his contestants — calling her and her peers “losers.”

By way of introducing Susan Cole, from Maryland, Trebek says, “Her favorite type of music is something I’ve never heard of, but it doesn’t sound like fun.”

Laughing off Trebek’s jibe, Cole says, “I think it’s very fun. It’s called nerd-core hip-hop.” She goes on to explain the subject matter of nerd-core rap, which includes “video games, science fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners.”

The audience laughs, and a noticeable pause follows as Cole waits for Trebek’s response. But instead of saying something polite about her niche hobby and moving on — as one might expect America’s most beloved game show host to do — he goes for the punchline.

“Losers, in other words,” he says.

The clip cuts off before we get scorned Cole’s response.

The 25-second footage was pulled from an episode that aired on October 12, 2016. Turns out, Cole wasn’t a loser at all, taking home $20,600 in winnings that night. She got the last laugh in the end, too, with a three-game winning streak that earned her $67,800.

Trebek was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and recently shared that love from his fans has given him hope in his battle.

Beginning May 4, fans will have a chance to relive some of the show’s greatest episodes, featuring legendary champion Ken Jennings. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, production on new episodes has not been scheduled.
