“The deal is, I guess I’ve got an arthritic shoulder, and right now it’s not so bad, but it’s gotten to the point where I can’t even sleep at night,” the 65-year-old meteorologist said of his right shoulder on the 3rd hour of “Today” on Tuesday.

Roker, who had hip replacement surgery in September, also spoke about the “intense” pain he has endured as a result of the discomfort.

“It’s not bad during the day, but at night, it’s an intense pain that literally wakes me up. And for the last month, I’ve only been sleeping about two or three hours a night, which even for me, is a little bit less,” Roker explained.

Dr. Riley J. Williams III, an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, will conduct Roker’s surgery.

“This type of surgery sounds very ominous, it’s about an hour-long surgery and we tend to do it as an outpatient or an overnight stay. Al will let me know tomorrow what he wants to do,” Williams said on “Today.”

“But on the whole, it’s really designed to just basically restore the normal joint surfaces so that arthritic, achy pain that he’s been having and waking him up at night can go away and we can kind of get him back on to the road to recovery,” he continued.

In 2014, Roker underwent surgery to repair a rotator cuff in his left shoulder.
