        <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Britney Spears has been offered a hand from the American Civil Liberties Union <strong>in the battle</strong> over conservatorship.</p><p>The pop star had <strong>asked a court</strong> to remove her father, Jamie Spears, as her sole conservator, though a judge on Friday extended the arrangement for another six months.</p><p>&#8220;People with disabilities have a right to lead self-directed lives and retain their civil rights,&#8221; the ACLU <a href="https://twitter.com/ACLU/status/1296184300023537665" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">said in a tweet</a> this week. &#8220;If Britney Spears wants to regain her civil liberties and get out of her conservatorship, we are here to help her.&#8221;</p><p>Spears, 38, has been living under the legal arrangement with her father since 2008, though her manager, Jodi Montgomery, took over last year after Jamie experienced health issues.</p><p>Recently, a fan-led #FreeBritney movement has insisted she&#8217;s trapped in the agreement against her will.</p><p>The “Toxic” singer’s lawyer stated in court documents earlier this week that Britney was “strongly opposed to having [Jamie] return as the conservator of her person.”</p><p>In an <strong>interview </strong>with The Post earlier this month, Jamie rejected fan conspiracies that he was using the conservatorship to profit off his daughter&#8217;s fortune.</p><p>“I have to report every nickel and dime spent to the court every year,” he said. “How the hell would I steal something?”</p><p>Jamie said that &#8220;it&#8217;s up to the court&#8221; to decide what&#8217;s best for the pop star and &#8220;no one else’s business.”</p><p>“All these conspiracy theorists don’t know anything.
