Packers tight end Marcedes Lewis is taking the news of Aaron Rodgers’ impending breakup with Green Bay to heart.

Thursday, in the hours before the 2021 NFL Draft in Cleveland, it was reported that Rodgers wants out of Green Bay. The quarterback, who’s approaching his 17th year with the Packers, reportedly told people in the organization, including teammates, that he doesn’t want to return this coming season.

Lewis, who’s close friends with Rodgers on- and off-the-field, is hoping the Packers and their reportedly “disgruntled” star quarterback can work something out — so they can win a Super Bowl together.

“Obviously he is Green Bay and we need him to do what we want to do next year… before it’s said and done I want to try and get a ring and a lot of that weighs on him,” Lewis, who admitted he re-signed with the Packers in March on a two-year deal because of Rodgers’ presence, told TMZ on Thursday.

Rodgers has not publicly explained why he would be pursuing a potential divorce, though it’s believed tensions have been brewing after the Packers traded up in the first round of the 2020 draft to select Rodgers’ eventual replacement, Utah State product Jordan Love.

Lewis was cryptic in explaining any details of the Rodgers-Packers situation.

“Anything in this lifetime is not going to be given to you in a straight line, and obviously that’s between him and the front office and I’m just hoping they can figure it out and A-Rod returns so we can handle business,” he said. “I know whatever it is, he’s always done a good job about being professional and not putting his business out in the streets… it’s tough.”

The 36-year-old veteran also delivered a message to his quarterback.

“Miss you bro, but I understand it’s business first and you gotta do what’s best for your family. So, respect.”

As the quarterback mystery in Green Bay continues to play out, one thing is for sure: the Packers have 37-year-old Rodgers under contract through 2023.

On Thursday night, Packers manager Brian Gutekunst said the team is not planning on trading Rodgers — after they failed to draft any help for Rodgers in the first round, yet again. Green Bay took Georgia defensive back Eric Stokes with the 28th-overall pick in the 2021 draft — the Packers have not taken a non-QB offensive player in the first round since 2011.

Rodgers, who recently got engaged to actress Shailene Woodley and gained even more fame as a solid “Jeopardy!” host, has yet to address the situation publicly.
