ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Aaron Judge sat again Friday for the series opener against the Rays, with the right fielder battling soreness in his left side.

It’s the second straight game Judge has been held out of the lineup — coupled with the team’s off day on Thursday.

Despite homering in each of his previous two games, Judge looked to be in discomfort on the bases and in right field in his last game Tuesday. Aaron Boone has said the soreness developed in that game was not the reason he was pulled after seven innings on Monday, or sat the final three Grapefruit League games of spring training.

“Just felt like I wanted to wait another day,’’ Boone said Friday. “We’ll see where he’s at in 24 hours. It’s simply wanting to play the long game and not force anything.”

Judge stretched on the field and hit in the cage before Friday’s game.
